hey mate, love your work as always. I'm always impressed by the look of your photos you put up, and I was wondering if there were any lightroom tricks to giving that 'film' look that gives your photos such a smooth sheen but also is quite crisp. As a film lover I'm finding it tricky to duplicate the look my film photos have with my digital pics- any tips would be much appreciated!
Thanks! :) There aren’t really any tricks, so to say. I try to live by this idea when editing: A lot of subtlety goes a long way. Don’t go nuts with saturation or clarity or contrast etc etc etc. Just do a lot of small adjustments.
Of course, break that rule as much as you’d like. I find it’s just a good guideline to keeping your photography from that iffy area of “bad editing.” As for smooth sheen, I think you’re looking for Tone Curve. Play around with it and adjust the curve in such a way that there are no absolute highlights or shadows. (That’s if you use Lightroom).
